Apologies for the multiple posts, but I am in the middle of an engine removal.
I have the engine and trans pulled from the truck If I am understanding correctly, to separate the engine from the transmission I need to remove the torque converter bolts, and then the bellhousing bolts. Problem is, the engine is seized and I can't spin the crank to access all the torque converter bolts. Any suggestions? It's an automatic if that changes anything.
You can remove bell housing bolts then the transmission will slide STRAIGHT back and off, leaving the TC on the flex plate.
Might then need to flip the engine over, remove pan, then main and rod caps, then lift crank up with flex plate and TC on it, then once out you can undo TC bolts and then flex plate bolts. You'll need help.
I like tbear's idea. There are only three bolts securing TC to flexplate as I recall. Depending on their current location when you get the transmission removed that will give you more access to the flexplate than through the inspection cover. You might be able to get to at least two of them with a wrench, maybe even all three.
Another thought is you could pop the heads off and see if you can get the engine un-seized with some gentle persuasion and a penetrating oil of some sort dumped into each cylinder and let sit for a few hours or overnight.
I might try the easy approach first and blast it with some penetrating oil overnight and see if I can break it free. If not, I will try @tbear853 approach. If I take this approach, can I still attach to an engine stand?

Once you get the TC off the flex plate or the crank out with TC still attached you'll be able to mount it to your engine stand using the bell housing bolt holes.
Well good news, bad news. I ended up sliding the transmission off, and I was actually able to slip a wrench in and reach the rest of the torque converter nuts. Bad news is I stripped the last one! Why are the nuts made of such soft metal? Going to have to try to grab it with some vice grips. Problems for tomorrow.
