Has anyone had to tackle a repair like this? The "receiving cup" part of the hinge half rusted away. I've been thinking of trying to find a suitably sized freeze plug to weld in there or fabricate something around that idea.
looks to me like someone cut that strip off to make it easy to remove the tailgate. if so, I'd weld a piece back in. Make sure that bolt is free and gooped up with anti seize
