Question Source for Spicer 5831 speedometer gears?

This is a long shot, I know... having recently changed my rear gears from 4.56 to 4.10, my ratio adapter is no longer correct. I was going to buy another, but found that the cost for these little adapters has gone up a lot since the early '00's... and it wasn't cheap then.

My current brownie gearset has 3 teeth worm, 14 teeth pinion which requires a 1.5867 step-up to make 1000 cable rpm/60 mph. with the 4.56 gears... Now with the 4.10, I'd need a 1.764 ratio. One place will re-gear my unit for $100. (which is still considerably cheaper than a new one!)

So I'm wondering if anyone still supplies drive and driven gears for the Spicer 5831B brownie itself... I don't know if there is a set that would be close, but I can't find a table of part numbers and tooth counts. (The 5831 parts manual found online shows some different numbers but not the ratio). Any thoughts?

I would check at some of the older speedo shops as they may have some dusty old nos stuff they would love to get rid of.

Since the 5831 was used in large trucks there is no listed ratio numerically lower than 4.56.

Thanks for that info. But those 9x20 tires are much larger in diameter (517 revs/mile) than my 235/85R16 tires (637 revs/mile).
So the large truck rear gears for the same driveshaft RPM would be 4.10 * (637/517) = 5.05

I don't know what truck my 5831B came out of. Could be GM or some other manufacturer. Either way, the rear gears always jump from 4.88 to at least 5.13. If I got the speedo gears for a 5.13 rear there would be just over a 1% error, which is less than 1 mph at 60 mph.

I assume the columns of part numbers in the picture are drive and driven gear tooth counts? If so, a 4 tooth drive and 17 tooth driven would give almost exactly the ratio I need to keep using my existing ratio adapter, compared to my current 3 & 14.

A more desirable approach would be to eliminate the adapter entirely if I'm going to change speedo gears. 637 * 4.10 = 2612 driveshaft RPM at 60 mph. Speedo needs 1000 rpm. So, 2.612 ratio. 5 tooth drive and 13 tooth driven comes out very close.

Now to find the Spicer p/n for those pairs, so I'm not tied to obsolete Ford parts!

I’d give the guys name but can’t remember it. I posted for gears in the HAMB and a fella reached out to me almost immediately. He had what I needed.
