Has this happened to anyone else? I was driving in a 75-mph freeway zone and accelerated past another car. I let off the gas pedal, but my 2019 Expedition started accelerating on its own. I hit the brake to slow down at which point a message appeared that said something to the effect "Deceleration due to application of Brake", something like that. When I let off the brake, it started accelerating again. I was able to pull over to the shoulder, put it in park at which time the engine started to increase rpms again. I hit the off button, and the engine turned off, thank God! After being freaked out for just a minute, I tried to restart, but the engine just cracked and wouldn't fire, and a message appeared something to the effect, Security All Zones. I had only been stopped for about 3-4 minutes at this point. After referring to my owner's manual, it appeared the message has something to do with the vehicle anti-theft system. I tried opening and closing the driver door, tried resetting the security system from All Zones Sensing to Perimeter Sensing, still won't start. What seemed to work was getting out of the car and opening and closing the liftgate. Then it started and drove like nothing was wrong! Is a stuck accelerator a thing with these cars, or could it be an electronic controller issue?
Check the pedal to see if it is physically sticking. We had a truck at work do that. The pedal would get stuck half way down. Some kind of burr in the mechanism and the pedal had to be replaced.
it’s all electronic, but the pedal is still mechanical and can do mechanical things to fail in mechanical ways.
