I had a no crank no start issue I resolved by installing a new neutral safety switch.
My problem now is that it seems the cable that connects to the linkage has too much slack. I can shift from park to drive just fine. But when I go to move the column shifter back up to reverse or park, it will just stay in neutral. I have to go under the truck and move the neutral safety switch back to park.
I made sure the truck was in neutral and the lines on the new switch were lined up when I installed it.
I don’t know if I need to adjust the cable or something else. If I have to adjust the cable how would I go about that?
It is a e40d automatic transmission. I’ll attach a picture to show what slack I am talking about.
something aint kosher there. i dont know what it is, but there should not be any slack in the cable, and it should be covered completely by the cable jacket..

I sort of figured that. Is it possible for the cable jacket to be broken and it’s not pulling the tension on the cable?
Would it be wise to just go ahead and install a new shift cable?

you will need a new cable. gluing it will not work.
I duct taped it just to see what would happen. Actually holding well. Have every gear now except park which is intermittent. I figure I’ll get a hose clamp and see if it does any better. If not, new cable it is.
How do get an intermittent park gear? I could take some guesses but I won't. Please elaborate I'm curious.
Sometimes will catch park if I slam it into park. Sometimes will not. So just parking it in neutral with parking brake for now. I got a hose clamp and I’m going to see if I can use it to seat the cable jacket and keep the cable from moving. Duct tape is working for now. Gonna recalibrate the NSS and apply the hose clamp after.

The only thing that changed was that you removed the lever to replace the MLPS. I still think you didn’t put the lever back on the shaft in the correct position. How else would the cable suddenly be too long?

because the cable mount is broken and letting the cable flex.
