Got me a 1971 F100 360 4V. The wiring has been hacked up over the years. It runs pretty good. Need the new carb tweeked. Question is: Alt only putting out about 12.6v. I know it should be putting out between 13.5-14.5. This alt has an internal voltage regulator. I know 12.6 ain't gonna hack it. Anyone install a 1 wire alt?
Thanks, Bob
I installed a junk yard alternator out of a 1996 Mercury Sable (I believe) and it works great for the $20 I paid for it. It puts out 130 amps compared to the 55 amp stock alternator, which in turn does make my Holley Sniper FI work better.
I paid the $80 for a new alternator harness to keep it original and maintain the dash light. Sounds like yours is already modified with if it has an internal voltage regulator so I'd go that route.
Update! I was messing around with wiring under the dash and hood. I had installed a digital volt meter. After messing with wiring ensuring all connections were solid, bingo, 14.6 volts. Old a$$ wiring sucks. Thanks for all the input. I will make sure I refer back to this IF it doesn't work out.
