If my truck is closed up for a couple of hours it has this nasty musty smell inside. I don't see any standing water but with the threads discussing water leaking in I'm wondering if I do have a water leak somewhere and it's just not manifesting itself somewhere visible. Any suggestions as to where I should start looking?
i had that problem in an escape (found leak and fixed) but the smell remained for a while. I opened all the doors. used big shop fans to blow out the inside. Used a shop vac and sucked all water out of floor mats. It was all "dry" but smell persisted so I bought some damp rid at the grocery store and hung off the back of the seat. When I parked, I cracked the windows and only used the AC on fresh air. The smell and mustiness disappeared after a few months.
UPDATE. I found the source of the smell. It's the fabric mesh that pops up when the sunroof is open. Apparently water is sitting up in that channel and the fabric is absorbing it and that's what's turning into mildew so now I need to figure out how to remove that mesh to wash it and then look at the drain tubes to make sure that they are open. I'm wondering if that's how water is channeling down into the driver's side door c hannel
There are some threads in the forum that address sunroofs leaking. You might try taking a look at those to see what others have done (and you might find your answer there).
The forum search option is fairly lacking in finding results, so you're better off using your preferred web search engine instead. Just add "site:ford-trucks.com" to your search terms (minus the quotes). I've had much better results doing forum searches that way.
Happy hunting, glad you found the source of the leak.
