MY truck has been recently starting to stall and i have no idea what the problem is? I changed the distributor all together because the old one was crap! My truck started running a lot better but it still stalls. I have bought a new holley carbeurator 2300 500cc 2bl. im confused ????
Man, lots of trouble with those 500 holleys tonight!
When I swapped from the stock autolite, i had to reset the timing because the Holley pulled a bigger vacuume at idle. See that your accelerator pump is working (a little fuel squirts down the throat when you move the throttle), then check your base timing.
I know im getting gas in to the carb. and i know that gas is going through because after a couple times i took off the air cleaner and as i pumped the pedal i saw that gas is going through because it was getting everywhere. I adjusted the carbuerator afterwards and problem is still persistent. I had my motor rebuilt and i found out that the timing was set at tdc and in the book it said that its suppose to be at 6 btc. still confused?
You say gas is getting everywhere...It's not flooding is it? Gas dribbling down from the base of the carb, or an overly strong smell of gas when this happens? A sticking float can cause that.
Do you have electronic ignition? Check and clean all connectors from the modules, etc. EGR? Make sure it's not operating at idle. It shouldn't be if normal. Check the internal wires in the distributor. My book also says 6 btc for that year/engine. I'd go with it. MK
the carbeurator is not flooding but there has always been a strong odor of gas. This occurred with my old carbeurator and the new one.
no electronic ignition, but i want to go that route i just dont know where to look. the distributor is brand new so problem there. sticking float? how do i fix that or even make sure that is the problem?
look at the "holley carb adjustment thread" that is just under this one. He has the same carb and a little different problem, but you will understand when you read the thread.

No comment on carb, but have been told that pertronix is an effective way to switch to electronic. I also just replaced my dist on my truck so a unit that just replaces the points and condenser makes sense to me.
One thing i forgot to mention. the stalling majority of the time occurs when i make a complete stop. sometimes it happens when im idling. still confused!
