I am looking for a air cleaner for my 50 f2. I found one from a 52 M3 that looks close but there is no wind guard on it. Did 1950 trucks have a wind guard? I've seem different ones on Ebay and they all differ. Anyone have one to ship to me. PM photos and price. Thanks
First thing to ask is what carburetor variation do you have? While you should have the truck version with the V air cleaner interface, it isn't uncommon to find passenger versions with the "flat" or sideways ladder air cleaner interface.
The proper truck part is 7RT-9600-C, but hardly anyone in the secondary market lists them like that. They just get listed as Ford Flathead Air Cleaners and hide amongst all the other variations.
If one doesn't come out of the woodwork here, you can always try giving Chuck of Chucks Trucks LLC a call and see what his ever evolving inventory has available.
I know the later version to left in the picture are usually 52’s earlier ones are the concentric circle design were in trucks even up to 51. The one to the right is fairly easy to find on eBay as I think they were produced longer. Concentric circle one
It looks like they all had wind breaks. If I follow you correctly the one on the right in the 2nd photo is what I need. Yes?
Yes, I believe that is the “style” that is correct. eBay usually has a few sellers that list them as “truck” air cleaners. I’ve found all of mine on eBay. Or try Chuck’s.
I think the later ones are just more closed up from dust, thus the Heavy Duty label?
Either style will function correctly provided the base is of the appropriate type. That change in design surprisingly didn't have a change in part numbers. I traced the "spider leg" head to ~1953. I guess it could have been on some 52 too?

“surprisingly” .. you have way more faith in those Ford part books than I do!!

"Surprisingly", my library is much more than just every know edition/printing of the parts catalogs. There is an art to researching and navigating through it all the various documents and publications.
I don't just simply look up a part in one catalog and call it a day. Some of the Ford catalogs and documents are better than others. The more prevalent later copies of the parts catalog unquestionably deviate as Ford inventories evolved. Much can be learned and inferred as parts are traced throughout my library, occasionally down to the exact day Ford claims a certain production change occurred. As stated before, while my library may be absolutely imperfect, it is also exceedingly adequate and insightful and those who question it often don't offer better documentation sources - I'm always looking for better information.

If there’s an Art ..then you Sir are an Artist! Hats off to you for the hard work you put into this forum!!
Double check the carb opening on those cleaners. The one with the spider lid looks like a 6 cylinder and the bee hive style is V8. The 6's use a smaller carb neck and won't work on a V8.

good idea I always ask the sellers to measure. I think one of those listings has a tape measure on the opening.
