yes gasoline or kerosene works ,the element fits perfectly inside a five gallon bucket.

I cleaned my filter part with kerosene several years ago. I think that's what the shop manual recommends.

I am in Ohio. I appreciate anything you can do for me though. I'll keep looking. Everything on eBay is pricey. I'm just an old man trying to fix my truck up. Thank for responding.
