Looks like a 351M or 400 with a 4wd pan that has taken hits on the bottom of the sump, and under the oil pump, likely set down to hard on the floor. Likely fixable. Needs a dip stick and tube.

im guessing it was installed in a 79 2x4 truck and that possibly dented it or as you say it may have been sat down/ dropped hard.
