I'm losing coolant from somewhere near the oil pan. Two 1 inch hoses in that area have coolant dripping down from them but I can't exactly tell where the leak starts. I've replaced the radiator and the upper and lower radiator hoses. Any ideas?
Other common causes for leakage on the 4.0 is the lower intake gasket (sometimes fixed by re-torquing) or cracked heads. Hopefully it is just a gasket.
What two 1" hoses are you talking about? the heater hoses? If the heater hoses are old, they could be rotted out and be developing a leak. Whereabouts near the oil pan? front? rear? driver's side? passenger side?
It was just in front of the oil pan and behind the fan. I guess a little more info would be helpful. It's a 93 4x4 with 235000 miles. From the angle I had, which wasn't very good, it looks like the hoses are connected to the water pump (1 inch diameter was just a guess). The hoses have an accumulation of coolant on them but I can't exactly see where the leak originates. I just replaced the lower and upper radiator hoses and these hoses don't look as wide as the hose I replaced.
Those two ~1" hoses are the heater hoses. They circulate coolant through the heater core.
A leak from that area (behind the fan in front of the oil pan) could be 1) water pump 2) heater hoses 3) thermostat housing 4) lower intake manifold gasket and probably others. If the radiator hoses looked pretty bad, I'd replace the heater hoses, too, as a matter of maintenance. They get old and rot out as well. Other than that, look real close to see where the coolant is coming from.
have somebody pressure test the cooling system for you Could have any of the problems listed, but I don't think it's the headgasket sounds like heater hoses or water pump
