Supposedly they keep the wheel & hub on the axle if the front bearing fails catastrophically. To me it seems like a lot of money for two washers, for a problem I've never heard about.
I have them. Do I absolutely need them? Probably not. But things go wrong and bad stuff happens. So I use them.
The theory is that if bearings fail the hub saver washer keeps the hub and wheel from coming off the axel.
I keep my bearings & wheels well maintained. So this is just some more peace of mind. Lots of folks say they are a waste of money. Whatever - to each his own…..
From the looks of it, its design is to keep the rollers from falling out, which will prevent the hub from falling off. Should protect the hub and spindle from getting damaged so a bearing replacement on the side of the road can be done quickly. If thats the case, worth every penny.
