Hello, my 2003 Ford Explorer (Eddie Bauer trim) electrical system is being real funky. All the drivers side seat buttons wont work (other then the seat warmer), and neither the automatic lock buttons on any of the doors or key fob will work.
I've taken the drivers seat off to check the wires there, looked in the door boot, looked under the floor trim by the door on the drivers side, and also checked fuses all to no avail- all wires intact besides some in the door boot, but when I reconnected them all windows stopped working (need to check the fuse to see if it blew or something, I did unconnect them again).
Anyone have any sort of clue if I'm missing something or there's other places with wires to check? I need to get my doors working mainly, for now I have to manually lock & unlock them. Any help appreciated.
At one point in time everything worked yes, the power locks and driver seat adjustment stopped working when I was adjusting the driver seat awhile ago. Everything else but those still worked though.
Well... that fixed it. I guess I was over looking it or something but thank you so much. Windows aren't back though, so I'll need to look into that next. Maybe its a popped fuse? Anyways thank you a million for the help
Do the power windows only not work from the Master switch on the driver's door, or do the individual door window switches not work either? Do the master switch backlight LEDs still illuminate the buttons? Are you comfortable removing the master switch to perform voltage checks at the switch connector? Does the radio continue to work when the ignition is shut off until a door is opened (since the windows are also powered by the Accessory Delay Relay)?
None of the window switches work, passenger or driver. I'd be comfortable removing the master switch to do a voltage check. The radio turns off when the ignition is shut off.
Here is a simplified diagram of the power window circuit. Check the fuses shown. The accessory delay relay may be or the instrument cluster may not be triggering it.
If the window lock switch is not in the "lock" position, yet none of the window switches work, that pretty well indicates that at least the primary power to the master window switch is a problem. That is really the only issue common to all 4 switches that could prevent all of them from working. This feed to the master power window switch is the Lt Blue/Black wire at connector pin location 6. Assuming you don't already have the master window switch out and accessible, then I'd suggest you start by checking for battery voltage (hot all the time) to pin 30 of the Accessory Delay Relay in the Battery Junction Box. Since the radio works, there probably is voltage here, but you should confirm that anyway. Once you confirm power on terminal 30, you could try swapping out the relay with another similar one that you know works (maybe the fuel pump relay, etc.) and also confirm that you can feel the relay click when the key is first turned on. If you don't have a helper to turn the key or feel the relay for trigger, you can use a meter to confirm battery voltage on terminal 85 of the relay and ground to terminal 86 when the key is in the Run position.
If all of that checks out, then you'll need to access the connector of the master power window switch to confirm whether or not you have power on the light blue/black tracer wires at connector terminal location 6 with the key in the Run position and the Accessory Delay Relay installed. Assuming you won't find voltage there, you get to start the fun job of finding the break in that circuit, with the most likely candidate being where the wire bends between the driver's door and the cab at the door jamb.
If you do find that you have voltage, and it doesn't drop when a window button is pushed (which would suggest a high resistance in the feed) on the light blue/black wire, then post back and we'll get into steps to troubleshoot the master window switch assembly.
If you're comfortable reading wiring diagrams I can also provide that for you rather than interpreting it into words here.
Can't find the location of the Accessory Delay Relay, looked it up and some people say its under the dash and some are saying its in the dash. Really confused.
I pulled up the Ford factory service manual for the 2003 Explorer. According to this, it's located in the Central Junction Box, and it appears there may be 2 parts to the CJB? But also according to the FSM, the CJB is on the left hand (Driver's side) under the dash and it should look like the below image.

Reason: Corrected information
Is the battery junction box the one under the hood? From what I've been able to find its on the back side of the fuse panel inside the car under the driverside dash. So many terms, so confusing
Anyways I'll try to take a knock at it before it gets too dark.
