Temp Gauge Reading Low

Ever since I purchased this brick (2 years ago now) I have put on only about 300 miles and have been working through some minor issues with it and the temperature gauge is reading low. I figure it is just that someone put in a new thermostat in the past and maybe put in a 160 instead of a 190. It there anything else I should consider (not including a faulty gauge)? This pic is after warming it up fully driving around for about 30 minutes.

from "N" to "L" is about 20-30 degrees
on my 1996, which is different year but the gauge should be similar, the N would be about 185
this would be somewhere like 192
this would be somewhere like 192
degrees
L would be like 205, max 210

Which, based on your gauge being that low, id suggest finding out if your wire to the sender (its on the back of the motor, opposite side as the oil filter, iirc, one wire.) is good, making sure your dash cluster is well grounded. Id reseat the plugs on the firewall a few times to clear corrosion. THen id verify the hose on the t stat housing is HOT to the touch when its "warmed up"
THeres a proper and improper way to do the thermostat as well, if you crushed it installing it wrong it would possibly be stuck open. HOw did you replace it, describe your process

And then, you need to bleed the air properly. this requires filling the radiator and overflow and then running at 3-4k in bursts to circulate coolant with cap off, with heater on high, while squeezing rad hoses(AND heater core) to ensure air pushes out

I'd replace the thermostat with a Motorcraft one
Should be 195 degrees IIRR, maybe 192

I did not change it, the previous owner did and I am thinking to replace it this week. I will check all the wires, which is something I always do, check connections and grounds.

The gauge sender is a little single wire thing on the side of the block, if it hasn't been changed recently it may be due. It needs thread sealer because it goes into the water jacket but don't use too much or the gauge readings will be affected.. the sensor has to ground through the block. That means the engine and EFI wiring grounds have to be clean.. something to check. Also note if you were to buy 5 different senders you will get 5 different readings on the gauge so don't get too hung up on it's exact position.
