Auto Trans stuck in second gear

Have a 1997 F-150 Auto trans 2x4 Starts out now in second gear and stays there. It use to go back and fourth where it would shift fine but then it started to gradually go to where you would start the truck and it would start out in second and stay there. Havent checked the trans codes yet but thats my next step. Anyone else experience this issue with there transmission?

Could be a linkage issue. Can you pull the lever fully down have have it roll out in first?

Reverse work?
