My old Aerostar ('88 5-speed) has two smaller ground leads from the negative battery clamp (3 wires total). One goes to the body near the battery tray. The other goes to a fusible link connected to the harness.
The body wiring diagram shows no fusible link connected to the battery negative (or chassis ground). There are 3 connected to positive. The diagram doesn't show more than one connection to battery negative. One negative fusible link might make multiple positive links unnecessary. Could this be a cost reduction? Has anyone seen a revised diagram with a link on the negative side?
Note: The engine control diagram does not show the battery but shows 3 more fusible links connected to "hot".
As it is wired now, when the negative link opens the ignition relay opens, but rhe starter motor still works.
