I replaced the airbags (little bump up) from abandoned truck on a friends hunting land. Bought a module from ebay, same as the one from my truck. Getting code 14 which is front sensor shorted error.
The bumper and grill are off the truck and I searched high n low for a sensor, there are no sensors on the front end I can find. My module is mounted under the dash by the driver side floor board. I found a sensor of some kind over on the right side interior wall but no idea what that is.
Is there actually a sensor or is it in the module?

Should be attached to the radiator support behind the grill.

That little sensor i saw on the passenger side is the fuel shut-off in case the truck rolls. Disconnecting it wont start

How do you read ABS air bag odes? It's not an OBD II thing is it? Are you using a specific scanner or Forscan?
I looked around the intenet and see all kinds of differerent "code14" definitions. I wonder if different vehicles use different sets of sensors. Maybe some have more and your module came from a vehicle with more.
Not 100% also but I think that some ABS air bag modules need prograrmming to the PCM. Not sure it's a plug-n-play procedure. Don't know though.
Edit - got my A words mixed up. Questions still apply, I think.
Interesting problem, hope I never have it. Good luck.
I took a look in my 2003 wiring diagrams book and can't even find a sensor shown.
I did find a reference to them in the work shop manual though. The work shop manual says to look in the appropriate work shop manual (??). I'm looking now...
This might help. Apparently, the module itself contains sensors. Maybe you got a used module or a bad one. If "restraint control module" is the one you're talking about. It's for a 2003 but a 2001 is probably similar.
It should be a plug n play on this year truck. I had a similar issue that occurred not long after i bought the truck several years ago and replaced it with this exact module code. The code flashes the airbag light a few times then goes solid. I'll see if i have any notes from my first replacement to see what code it was.
I'll look in my e-manual for 2001. But don't think there's any external sensors. It is possible the one i got is for a truck with external sensors even though it's the exact code number as the one that was in there.
Thanks for looking!
I'll keep you posted and if I get it resolved.
The 2001 F150 factory service manual does not even list an LFC 14 as a possibility. There are no fault codes related to ANY external sensors much less a front sensor.
Just in case, here are the instructions for reading the LFC:
Lamp Fault Codes
When the restraints control module (RCM) detects a system fault, it will cause the air bag indicator to flash a coded sequence; a lamp fault code (LFC). The code is two digits. The first digit is flashed with a 0.5 second interval between pulses. There is a 2 second pause before the second digit is flashed which also has a 0.5 second interval between pulses. There is a 5 second pause between each display of an LFC.
Each LFC is flashed three times after which the air bag indictor will remain lit for the remainder of the key-on cycle. If there are multiple LFCs, each LFC will flash in order of priority.
Each LFC has one or more associated diagnostic test codes (DTCs).
That said, two observations:
1) As noted, the sensors are internal to the RCM.
2) If the used RCM comes out of the box and is already squawking an error, it's bad.
My last post was basically the RCM is for a different truck that does have sensors even though it is the exact same PN as the one that came out of my truck.
Guess I'll eat the cost of this one and try to find one out of the same truck as mine.

I found the LFC 14 in the 2000-2003 SM i have.- see belowTCa LFCb Description Action To Take

None of those parts are the same
Get a New module if you need one, not one from a truck sitting in a field
Use the correct service manuals
Do exactly what the pinpoint test steps say for the code 14
Verify the correct module is in the truck first, then verify the code 14 remains before (again) proceeding
Airfbag is liable to blow up in your face if you swap parts too much or play games with the testing
Your 2001 simply needs a NGS to properly diagnose and check pids
None of those airbag pids will show up on a generic powertrain scan tool
This is what you need or find someone who has one
