Quench heads or a turbo?

Ok all, i have a delimmia here. I can't decide on weather on not to go with quench heads or a turbocharger setup. I have a 73 4V clevo (4 bolt main bolt) and i want more power so i can run a low 13s 1/4 with my 3:1 rear gears in my truck. Now i have the quench heads (but they need to be clean of rust so i might do a mild port and polish while i'm at it and a 3 angle valve job to) sitting in a shed ready to go. The turbo i would need to get but i would either use twin t3's or some kind of a diseal turbo. If you were me what would you do? I need to decide cause the i will be swaping motors and putting the clevo in my truck.

P.S. there are pictures of the motor in my gallery and a pictures of a turbo off a 855cu in 6cyc cummins diseal in there to.

Turbos are cheating.

In all essence the engine work will be of more value to you.

Thats what i've been thinking. On that thought, anyone recomend the best way to port/polish/etc, a set of quench heads? And a good book on the subject to.

The cleveland heads flow amazingly well. I hear most people just cleaning them up without removing to much material and thats really all you need.

I think the turbos on those 4V quench heads would work great. I don't know this for an absolute fact but it makes sense that the large intake ports of the 4V C heads would respond very well to a forced induction system. I think the sooner you could get the boost in the better it would be so I'd think 2 smaller turbos would be your best bet.

A very mild cleanup of the heads would be your best bet. I'd make sure to unshroud the valves, polish up the combustion chamber, smooth out the ports and get all of the casting flash and restrictions out of the valve pockets. Off hand I don't know if the 73 heads had the thermactor bumps in the exhaust ports but if it does make them go away as well.

With the quench heads and turbos i would have to run race gas cause thats really high on the cr side with a 10:1 cr and turbos. Anyway i know it doesn't take much to clean these heads up, once they have been cleaned up how much of an improvement could i expect?

Well, you are talking about two different things entirely.
If you want another 50-100 hp, a head change will get that.
If you want another 250 hp, turbos are the answer.

There's no question you'd have to lower your C.R. to more like 8:1 or less depending on how much boost you ran. Dished pistons would take care of that.
