1960 engine colors and features.
Valve covers, mine have the ford script(thin block letters) in the middle. I'm fairly sure there original, but after looking through a few brochures I'm not so sure. So if anybody has any ideas, comments. I'm not saying I need an exact answer but just a few ideas.

I know I'm not a '60 owner, but I didn't think you would mind if I chimed in anyway.

According to "Ford trucks 1957-67" by Paul G. McLaughlin, the 1960 292's in pickups were painted as follows.....
"red, blue, black for block, black for accents".
I know books can be wrong sometimes, but I have seen a few original un-molested 1960 trucks over the years. They were.....
Block=black
intake=red
Valve covers=blue
accents (air cleaner, starter, gen, oil filler cap, etc.) = black
The blue valve covers did have the "FORD" block letters that you have described.
Man, I wish someone would come out and give a DEFINITIVE account of correct Y-block colors for cars AND trucks from 1954 -1964!DOH! DOH! It's incredible to me that this info is so vague and difficult to find.
Something else - if the valve covers are blue, what's the proper SHADE of blue? Certainly not that corporate blue you get at Auto-Bone in a spray bomb. Which red? Which black!
Seriously...Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.
Thank you for any help and am very grateful, Tom

This is info from another user, but it should be correct. Welcome to the board by the way! -4speed

Is that address the guy who will have the info at the Henry Ford? If so, I've copied his info and will write or email him.
The paint class here is finish detailing a '55 Merc and just sprayed its Y-block. That block's original color was Goldenrod Yellow (of all things!). The entire thing, block, valve covers and air cleaner! What a....blinding color!
Although my truck ('55 223-6) is now painted red, you can see a couple of chips where the original color was goldenrod. You know, they sell these pamphlets that are repros that were on the racks of the original dealers' showrooms. Maybe they show a picture of the original engine compartment. I can only hope the engine didn't match the truck color as goldenrod is like: ugly on an ape. :>)
Does the rear valve cover fitting go to the carb base and does it use a check valve or just a hose?
Any and all help here would be truly appreciated as I just got my truck 6 weeks ago and want to keep it factory. Am missing that rod as well as the air cleaner. The radiator didn't have a cowelling I suppose even though John's F-funhundreds sell them in fiberglass and chrome. Right now I have an overheating problem in that when the truck is at a stoplight or just idling and not moving, it really climbs in temp. Although when moving it drops clear down to 145-150 degrees. I have to address that first. Also have to put the original fan blade back on as soon as I buy one. Someone put a six blade aluminum on there.
Would it be okay to e-mail you from time to time with questions as long as I don't wear my welcome out. By the way, I'm in Huntington Beach, CA.
Thank you, Tom
You're always welcome to email me with questions. I'd be glad to help if I can.
Are you near Tustin? thats where my 56 bigwindow came from in the mid 80's.
