Question Overdrive

I acquired a 1995, XLT, 2wd, auto trans, 3.0 liter with 140,000 miles. Runs great and I have been gradually updating small problems with the help of this website. The auto trans. works and shifts fine, but the shift button on the end of the range selector will not engage or disengage the overdrive. I have checked the overdrive fuse and panel light and they are okay. The transmission seems to shift into overdrive as I come up to speed and the kickdown shift works fine when I tromp on the accelerator. I average about 20 mpg on the highway, so I assume it's running in overdrive most of the time. I presume I have the 4R44E transmission and I wonder if anyone has a schematic of the overdrive shift circuit, or has some idea what's wrong.

The button only turns off the OD, every time you turn on your truck its in overdrive.

Thumbs up

Thanks Ken for the schematic. Looks pretty simple. Could just be the overdrive switch, or a broken wire. Will let you know
