Hi, Picked up a 4.9 litre 300 cubic inch distributor points type. Trying to verify what it fits. Numbers as follows
D205 12127AA on top
2E16 on bottom below other numbers
Supposed to be from a early to mid 1974 Ford F 100. Thank for any help.
Rex,
If you don't mind me asking, where did you find it.
I was looking on and off for one and want to also install it as I still have my old dwell they were pretty tough dists..
It is a 6 cylinder distributor. Story is it came from an 1974 Ford F100 2 wheel drive pick up truck. 300 cubic inch engine as told. Found it at a wrecking yard in Arizona. Will try and clean up the area again to see if I can determine if I gave correct data. Will post soon. Thanks.
O.K. Great. Needs new bushings. Internet says interchange is 1965-1973 4.9 litre engines. Need to determine if vacuum advance needed for a manual transmission as this one was from an automatic truck. thank you for the help.
Hi, Just took distributor to shop and cleaned up pad. It is a Motorcraft 6 cylinder distributor
D20F very faint then in box 12127AA
below this is 2E16
16 teeth on drive.
So does this help?
Can you post pictures? Did it come with a distributor cap? If not, can you count the lobes on the points cam inside on the shaft? The link headloct provided is interesting, saying it's a 302 dizzy. I wondered, given the intermediate engineering number, not a truck, and if in fact it is from a 6 cylinder it may be for a 200 or 250 instead of a 300? Either way, it's starting to look like you may have been flim-flammed.
O.K. Distributor came complete with a cap rotor. 6 lobes on shaft. Was given a photo of truck it came from including data plate. I will send a photo tomorrow of distributor. Is there a bushing set available for these distributors or do I have to make a set? And what would identify it as a 200 or a 250 cubic engine distributor?. Thanks.
Numbers don't lie...if you read them correctly. The O is a U. Couldn't find any bushings for that distributor but didn't look too hard. You might look at the the 6 section on this site or other sites,Facebook, etc. Maybe contact Cardone or other rebuilders to see if they can help.
O.K. Well this is not my first rodeo. Ben turning a wrench for many years and have replaced many distributors thru the years. So with that in mind ,what numbers are identifying this distributor as a V-8 one? The numbers to the left of the cast in numbers are very faint. Will attempt again to enhance them today. Taking photos now and will post. And again outside of lobes determining a v-8 or a 6 cylinder what are the physical differences I can look for to determine what I have?. Thanks.
the number you provided identifies it as a V8 distributor...the base number 12127 is ford's designation for distributor...the prefix and suffix determine the specific application/revision...which translates to an actual ford part number...
Sometimes the castings are hard to read...IF the prefix is D2UF, that would designate ford part number D2UZ-12127-A (motorcraft DA-1141) which is a 6 cyl distributor...'69 up F-100, manual 240ci non-california emissions.
