tank fuel lines

Hey all,

Have a 2002 Excursion with 7.3. Damn squirrels ate the return fuel line, sender wires, etc. So I dropped the tank and did the hutch mod while I was at it. For the return fuel line, I cut the rubber part of the hard line and used 5/16" 30R9 fuel hose and fuel injection clamps on the sending unit and the hard line - worked great!
The tank supply line was spared but it is ever so slightly leaking once I connected it again - not shocked as the factory connector with the o-rings is probably toast. So I was going to cut the supply line off the hard line (like I did the return line) and do the same thing.
However the supply line is 3/8" and a larger barb on the sending unit fitting - which will work with the 3/8" 30R9 fuel hose BUT the hard line is 5/16".....
So do I multi clamp the 3/8" line on the 5/16" hard line or attempt to jam a 5/16 fuel hose on the 3/8" sending unit fitting (doubt that will work) or use a brass 3/8" to 5/16" barb splice (which introduces 2 more potential leak points...

Thoughts?

Use the 5/16” line. Warm it up with a heat gun first then it will go over the barb for the factory fuel line.

I clamped on both sides of the barb with fuel injection clamps.

You did the mod, did you put a pre-pump filter in?

Yes sir I did. I didn’t get a picture of the tank pickup/ sending unit side though.

Because I eliminated the entire hard line from tank to pump it was much easier to attach the fuel line when the tank was down.

Edit: I overstepped. That question was asked of the OP.

I put a Sump on my '02 Excursion, and it already had a Wix 24006 PrePump filter on it when I bought the truck.

You can buy the quick connect ends and make a fuel line. I've done it on some trucks with rusty steel lines and replaced the steel with nylon. A good parts store should carry them and a real good parts store can make them up for you. I've also replaced the o-rings in quick connect fittings. I asked about the filter because if you used a filter like F350 did you could use whatever size fitting you want in the housing.
