i recently bought a 99 super duty with a 2000 7.3 motor it has after market taillights everything works besides the break lights i checked the break switch and im only getting power to the middle connector i checked my grandpas (01 super duty) and his had power on the middle one and the one on the far left the green wire i’m looking for help or ideas on how to fix it i checked all the fuses one was blown i replaced it and still no break lights i see someone else cut/broke a wire and soldered it back on could that be why im not getting power to the green wire? i haven’t checked to see if the actual lights are out you wouldn’t think they’d both go out at the same time though i thought
First thing welcome to the forum. Second, check to see if the BRAKE lights have power at the back of the truck. You said yours are aftermarket so yes, they could both be junk. If there is no power in the brake wires at the rear you can work back down the wiring towards the cab. You might find another spiced wire that is broke. Keep us informed of what you do and find.
the reverse light doesn’t work on the right side other then that everything else works. like i said my grandpa has power to the grey and black wire and the green and red wire mine also has power to the gray and black. does that mean it’s somewhere from the brake switch to the fuse box?

Ok, first we're not working on your Grandpa's truck. I understand using another for trouble shooting but you have now added one of your back-up lights does not work. You stated you have aftermarket lights, of unknown quality, so like I said, check your wiring at the back and maybe bench test your lights individually to eliminate them. Respond back with that or continue to do things your way and if that is the case why come here for suggestions? I'm trying to help but you need to participate.
Yes, you should have power to 2 wires in the connector at the brake pedal position switch. There's a light green with red tracer in pin 5 that comes from 20A fuse #13 and a light blue with black tracer in pin 3 that comes from 5A fuse #15. The one that doesn't have power is quite possibly the cause of your problem. At any rate, it should have constant battery voltage to it.
brake lights have power and work i ran a wire from a 20a fuse to the brake switch as a temporary fix i believe there’s a spilt or something in the wire i need to find in the wiring harness. do you guys think it’s somewhere up front between the fuse box and the brake switch?

I had the same problem about a year ago, it turned out to be the connector in the steering column, brake lights turn signals reverse all run through it. The clips that held them together broke.

I'm drawing a blank on the connector you mention. Ignition switch?
I believe it s called the multi function switch connector, up in the steering column
Turn signals, brakes, reverse lights all go through it. Mine has a tilt column, known issues
i thought i was just called a break switch i may be wrong. i just rigged it up for now im getting a parts truck this sunday gonna swap out both ends of the connector/plug and go through all the wiring to find my problem and fix it the right way the way i rigged up now works but you have to be very gentle on the breaks.

Early last year (or maybe the year before) I was heading out of town to get some parts for another project. Being in the F-250 I was running slower than most traffic so tried to use blinker like I should when I needed to change lanes or pass. Blinkers weren't working. Didn't think too much about it, not like anyone else was using theirs and in this truck I'm mostly sticking to the right lane. About a half mile from my exit traffic slows practically to a stop, few moments later a sheriff gets behind me then pulls me over.
"Sir, are you aware that you have no brake lights?"
Nope! Told him about the turn signals, that this was my exit coming up, and that I was already planning to check them out as soon as I got off the interstate. He told me to get it fixed and let me go, no ticket or official warning. I think that the unwelcome surprise was very obvious on my face. Considering traffic conditions, that actually had me worried about making it to the exit and thankful that I hadn't already been hit.
Anyhow pulled off and wuickly landed in an O'Rielly parking lot. After some interweb consulting and a little digging I discovered that I had a faulty relay in the center part of the dash that took out both took out both tails and turns. Don't recall what it was called, but it is down under the dash behind the lower panel in the center. The one the cup holders and ashtray (or bag hook) are mounted in. I know when I got to that point, I swapped that relay for a good one in another system, and the lights started working. Reinstalled the original relay and they stopped working, promptly went in and grabbed another relay off the shelf to finish the journey. Finally reinstalled the center dash piece last week.
Not saying that its your problem or that your truck is wired the same, but it might be something to check if your turns are our too.
Just to throw a curveball into this. The flasher relay behind the stereo may also be a culprit if you haven't found the problem yet. My flasher relay had an intermittent failure and when it failed intermittently, the brake lights did not work at all.
