For my '79 project F250, I need engine perches that set on the frame for a 300 / straight six. I see a local guy parting out a 4x4 manual (same as mine) F150. Are they interchangeable?
After much searching this remains one of the most misunderstood aspects of dentside tech. Some people say they were able to re-use their v8 perches after moving them forward. Others insist the 300 must have their own set. Very confusing.
77.5 and later F250 had a wider frame than the Highboys, and as I recall they were widened to the same width as the F150 at that time.
If you can measure the width of your frame and that of the donor truck, that should tell you if they will work. As long as the frame width is the same in the engine bay I think you'll be okay. Also take a front to rear measurement off a reference point that is the same, such as radiator support. The mounts for the 300 might be located slightly forward or back compared to where they're bolt to the frame for V8's. As far as I know the holes will already be in the frame to support all positions for the various engine options.
Since the 300 is much narrower than the V8 I am assuming they are different frame perches, but don't know for certain. The difference in width my be accounted for on the engine mount side of things. The mounts for the V8 is only a couple inches thick. If there are brackets of some sort on the 300 making the engine mount longer/taller, you might just have to move the perches forward or back.
I have a set in my shop, I'll check and see if there are any part #'s on them, I bought for $120 when I was going to put a 300 in my 77 F250 4x/low boy, ended up just rebuilding the 351Measly as I needed to get it done when I was buying my house.
The holes in the frame are there, they are towards the front of the truck, IIRC I had to remove shock mount bolts and use them for the perches.
On the 2wd trucks, yes, you can move the perches forward and use them, I have done it, also the same on the slicks, 61-66 2wd, I haven't done a bump yet to say for certain, but... I'm going to suppose so since both before and after the bumps work.
PM me, they're yours for what I paid for them +shipping if you want them.
After messaging and trading pics with PickupmanX2, I ended up buying his perches. They are NOT the same as the ones that were used for a V8 on a F250 4x4. I could NOT have just moved mine forward on the frame. I received his yesterday, and they are uniquely contoured to attach to the forward mounting point on the 4x4 frame in a way that my original ones are not. Plus they are taller and more forward-angled. They are altogether different and needed MANY THANKS to PickupmanX2. I'm off to find how to leave him positive feedback in the trading forum here.
