IWE 2003 5.4 4x4
did a search on the vacuum controlled front axle engagement. A lot to read but have a decent grasp of how itworks. This is referring to 2003 F10 Lariat 4x4, 5.4 auto, 230K miles. Use the 4x4 10-20 times per year or more during snow, approx 10-15 years ago replaced melted and cracked vacuum lines mostly from solenoids down and along right frame rail. Replaced both of the firewall solenoids including the rain hat.
I'm a bit limited with what I can physically do but changing a wheel hub bearing i feel ok with.
my initial plans are to go over all related vacuum lines and volume box and check valves.
current issue: front axle engagement
Transfer case shifts into Lo and High when switch activated (front drive shaft engaged)
Engine on Differential axle plunger engaged T case engaged front shaft does not turn
Engine off, T case disengaged, front shaft turns freely, no hub engagement
IEngine on, T case disengaged, front shaft still turns freely....iwe not working??
I haven't jacked wheels off ground yet (Have to get my floor jack back from a borrower)
This is a 2003 150, where are the iwe vacuum actuators located, i don't see them on the axle shafts behind the hubs. My 2008 truck are easily visible. Also I do not find vacuum actuators available for a 2003??
Is the actuator built into the hub bearing?? Plenty of information on 2004 above and single solenoids but little on the double solenoids and the 2003 truck.
(ABS pick-cable on left, replaced a year ago and warning light went off occasionally comes on now but mostly stays off. The old cable had some grease/debris on the sensor end, wheel bearing possibly going bad)
Any heads up advise that could point me in the correct direction would greatly appreciated Sorry for the long rambling. Planning to check vacuum lines/supply first including finding the termis of the vacuum lines at the wheel hubs.
