straight axle

Has anyone done a straight axle conversion on a ranger before? I'm thinking of doing on my 89 4x4. I'v got very different opinions on this and was wondering if anyone has done this. Any help or ideas/opinions on this would be great! Thanks!

If you could find an original Bronco(67ish) you could transplant the 9" axles from that.

I've done it. It really isn't hard at all. Just find an early bronco preferably '74 and up because they come with Dana 44 front instead of the dana 30 which is really weak. Use radius arm drop brackets from a 78 or 79 bronco, use 3.5" early bronco lift springs, fab up a track bar mount and that is about it. You can swap in a 9" also but I had already swapped in a 8.8 so I kept it.

Here is a pic:

The axle is a couple of inches wider, I forgot exactly what the dimensions were, but you don't have to cut it down at all. The springs drop right into the original coil buckets with minor modification to make them seat right.
