Just bought this 92 ford f250 as a project owner said it has alot of electric issues his was trying to fix before selling but didn't get them all figured out. On the drive home it wouldn't shift out of 1st while in drive it would get up to 35 then buck back down to 30. It'll drive normally in 2nd gear but will refuse to shift when going from 2nd into drive it'll act like neutral and rev freely. Previous owner says he believes he probably unplugged a wire going to the transmission or somthing because it drove fine before working on it. Any ideas where I should even start to look iv never worked on a auto transmission or a pre ob2 vehicle and I'm lost. Dash is a Christmas tree rear abs light, check engine light, the speedo goes like crazy Previous owner says the speedo has always done that.
It’s not much different than any other computer controlled vehicle. Check the computers to see why the lights are on. You can use a paper clip to jump the self test input trigger and signal wires then count the check engine light flashes or
or get a code reader. I use the Innova 3145 so I don’t have to count the flashing light to eliminate any errors on my part.
I believe the RABS wire that you ground to start the self test is behind the glove box on your truck but I’m not 100% sure.
what trans? if E4OD the overdrive light should be flashing. that will tell you there is a trans issue.
also if tach and speedometer are not working properly the trans will not shift properly

I'm unsure what trans came on this truck or how to find out it is a 92 f250 crew cab long bed with a 7.5l engine if that helps. The overdrive light was not flashing.
There is a sticker on the driver’s side B pillar. Look up that code to see what transmission was in the truck when built. Cab style and wheelbase are irrelevant. That would not determine drivetrain configuration. So does that mean you have an overdrive cancel button on the end of the shifter?
if it has overdrive light and an overdrive on/off button, it is an E4OD.
also, if the D on the shift indicator is in a circle it is an E4OD. if it is just a plain black D it is a C-6

yes this truck is equipped with e40d transmission.
Ok. Did you requisition a paper clip or code reader in the last 40 days?
ya havnt been able to work on the truck been out if town become of work. But i havnt been able to pull any codes more then likely due to the battery not holding a charge. Might order a code reader for it and see if it helps me pull anything.
