I got a 93 f150 with dual tanks from Canada. It was my grandpas and he passed in 2011. The truck sat for 9 years and now in my possession for 5 years. I replaced my rear fuel pump (tank and straps) and a little while later I started having overflow in the front tank.
I replaced the rear pump with one of the cheapest ones I could find at the time and thought I’d be fine. Trying to figure out what to do about the overflowing. Of course these pumps are super hard to find but I found some on a site that were listed as Canada Market and I’m thinking if I get those ones my issues will be fixed. Anyone care to help me out?
Neither pump would feed the motor, now it runs off the rear tank only until the front take fills up. Do I need new pumps, fdm or what?
The shuttle valve on your front tank's fuel pump is not closing, causing it to fill the front tank and over flow. It's a common problem on these 8th and 9th gen Ford trucks. You need a new front tand Fuel Delivery Module (FDM). They come as a complete unit with a new pump and valves. Rock auto is a good place to get them. Folks around here prefer Spectre, Carter, and Delphi brands.
So my rear FDM should be fine? I believe it has 2 hard lines coming out of it but the ones I saw online with “Canada Market” have 3 hard lines and my truck was produced in Canada. I can’t remember if my original FDM had 2 or 3 hard lines. And I thought the FDM for these dual tank trucks were hard to come by? Do you have a part number I should go for for the front FDM? Much appreciated!

I'm not aware of a "Canadian version" of the fuel pumps. All the FDM should have 2 lines; the line that sends fuel to the engine, and the line that returns it back to the tank. The fuel tank has a EVAP line on it for emissions, but it's separate from the FDM. Most of these trucks came from the factory with dual tanks. Single tank and fuel tank FDMs are the same. The part number you need depends on the material your tank is. Plaster or steel. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1993,f-150,5.8l+v8,1122107,fuel+&+air,fuel+pump+&+housing +assembly,10147

This is the one that says Canada market. And a lot of the other FDMs specify 2 ports, probably because of this FDM. I’m definitely gonna take your advice and try it out, the truck means everything to me and I want to do it up right.
The three port FDMs were used on vehicles equipped with a onboard gas powered generator like an RV chassis IIRC. It is not specific to vehicles specified for use in Canada.
Buy the best pumps you can afford, those one way valves fail quite regularly on the cheaper pumps
Yeah price doesn’t matter to me, I will be spending 120-160 on the FDM and getting a new tank and straps for the front. I will buy a 2 port one. The pump that is in the front tank hasn’t been used in about 15 years so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s junk. Once I get back from Kansas City Saturday I’ll pull the bed off and start tearing into it. I’ll keep the post updated. Thank all yall for the help. I hope it goes smoothly😂

I’m going to buy Spectra Premium tank with the pump already installed for $250 and be done with it hopefully. I have a regular cab, 4x2, with the long bed; so I should be long wheelbase meaning I have the 19 gallon front tank. Based on my 1993 Owners Guide. Atleast then both my tanks and pumps will be new and all should be good.

Great insight, RLA. I can see from the photo that the 3rd line has a cap on it. And the other side of the line is offset from the bottom of the tank by about 2 inches. For a RV generator system, this makes sense, because you don't want you generator draining your fuel tank to empty and not having any fuel to start the vehicle.

I installed Spectra tanks and low pressure in-tank pumps on my ‘89 back in 2012(?) and haven’t touched them since. I can’t say how the quality is now.

Yes and no. 8th generation from ‘89 and older did not have that fuel system.

Reason: Forgot “not”
@aaren32 hey, I'm in Kansas City (saw you mentioned it), and I just bought a '94 with the front overflow issue, haha! The solution that I'm planning on right now is actually just plugging all of the front tank lines and just running off the rear tank. I'm considering just draining the front tank (which is now thoroughly filled lol) and dropping it out permanently. I don't feel like I need both tanks anyhow.
Just another idea for you if you haven't considered it!
