i disagree with his foreign policies, but i recognize that he knows better than the general public, as well as maybe a good portion of the military what the dangers are involving the trip.
whatever the motivation was, it showed character and faith, and for that i respect him.
I was talking about those people who will downplay the sincerity of the visit, not neccessarily all those that will vote for someone besides Bush in 2004. Although many of these people are one in the same.
Yes, there are veterans that vote democrat. What placed them there in the first place was not my point. The impact that the President's visit had on troop morale will not be fully understood by most people, and that political "points" was a byproduct, not the reason for the visit.
I am SO proud of President Bush for what he did for the troops. I bet if he coud have safely spent more time with them he would have. Who knows - he may have other surprises planned for them!I wouldn't put it past him!
I am also THRILLED with the idea he flew into Saddam's own country when Saddam can't show his face publically! Oh the irony! Bet that didn't sit well with him or his followers!
I'm not "up" on military history but has any other President done something similar? I mean going to meet troops in the combat zone? The danger to Bush was very real, very scary yet he did it.
Lastly, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall in the dining room at the ranch when his Dad showed for Thanksgiving dinner only to find out his son was in Iraq! Can you imagine what he must have said? I hope the President didn't get in trouble with his Pop!
WTG President Bush!
