I know this might not be the right place to ask but what the heck.
I'm trying to sqeeze some more power from a DT466 engine. It just had new turbo put on it and it helped a little, but under load up a hill it still bogs down. I was considering shooting some propane in it, but i'm open to ideas. This has to be reliable and strong as it is used in a tractor to tow over the road. we've pulled 40,000 lbs with it and it felt week. thanks
but the dt466 is an inline six cylinder diesel cormbinder motor, if it isn't a computor controled motor take the pump to a good diesel pump shop and have them turn it up, and like all motors make sure it can breath with good airfilters, and unrestrictive exhaust, if you have a wast gate turbo tighten the waste gate to gain more boost, just some ideas
all i can say is get a bigger motor. I drive a tri-axle dump truck and haul 40,000. My truck has a C-12 cat with 430hp, and 1650ftlb and it pulls down on hills. The DT466 is a great motor but there is no replacement for displacement
I don't think boring and stroking is the right thing or even possible for a diesel. I agree that displacement is non-replaceable. but as my screen name applies i am only the wrench turner not the owner and he likes this motor. So i figure get the turbo adjusted, get higher flow injectors, get an unrestected air flow in and out, and spray it with propane for some on demand power. Does this sound good?
i worked at a heavy duty truck shop for 3 years. i learned that if you want to keep the truck reliable, as you mentioned above, keep it to manufacture's specs.
BUT... airflow is important, so reduce restriction on the air intake, and make sure the muffler/ exhaust is releasing exhaust good.
also as mentioned above, you CAN turn up a mechanical fuel pump. with a computerized engine you might be able to put in bigger injectors, but that wont do ANYthing for you until you increase the fuel supply to them.
im not sure that the propane assist system is for added power, i thought that was just to help the engine burn cleaner, and run on cheaper fuel.
personally id just go up the hills however fast the truck will take you up it, get to deal with it or buy a bigger truck. ive driven slow trucks, i know how it feels.
