Exclamation Cabin and cargo light problems 2004 E-250

Hello, recently I bought a 2004 E-250 and I'm having a couple of electrical issues.
I will describe just one for now.

1. When I open the driver side door, cabin and cargo lights go on, is this how is supposed to be? Then they go off after start driving, if not, they will go off after 10 minutes or more, but they will go off.
2. Lights go on only with driver door or by turning them on manually with the light switch on the dashboard.

All fuses checked ok, as many are in the fuse box, I wouldn't know if there any missing because I have no schematic or anything.

Where do I start the troubleshooting process?

Another huge annoying nerve-testing issue I have is with the seatbelt indicator, it doesn't recognize that the belt is on, yes I bypassed the two wires coming out below the drivers seat, (looks someone already had done that) and nothing changed. So it beeps for some time, a good eye opener especially in the mornings, if you can stand that you can survive anything!

Thank you for your time,

Here's a online manual for your van. https://www.fordservicecontent.com/F.../04ecoog3e.pdf

It says on page 55 of 256, that the courtesy lights stay on for 10 minutes if any door is left open. It's a battery saver feature. From your description, it sounds like it sometimes it thinks there is a door open somewhere, and finally goes out 10 minutes later, even though all the doors are closed. I would experiment with the doors and see which ones it recognizes as being open and closed. That might explain also the beeping, it thinks there is a door open somewhere.

Thank you for your reply,
The beep is for the seatbelt, lights go out after 10 minutes that is correct.
The only door that recognizes is the driver side one. I would like to recognize all of them though, that's what I want to figure out and fix.
I read somewhere that the these two issues can be related to a bad instrument cluster, idk...

I would think it's supposed to recognize all doors. The door switches are usually hooked to a body module somewhere. The switches usually ground an input to the module. I keep saying "think" and "usually" because I do not have a wiring diagram for your vehicle at my disposal. It also depends on what model you have. A stripped cargo delivery type van, or a loaded version, or something in-between.

Here is the wiring diagram l
https://charm.li/Ford/2004/E%20250%2...urtesy%20Lamp/

The door switches send signals to the instrument cluster. The cluster turns on a couple of relays that send power to the lights. The cluster gets signals from several different door switches so verify these signals are reaching the cluster.
