Hello all. For the past many years, I spent a lot of time participating in the 7.3, 6.0, and Excursion sub-forums of FTE as I went through ownership and experience of owning 3 different Excursions. As our travel plans evolved, I decided to jump on the vanlife / campulance bandwagon and picked up an E450 yesterday. This is a 1999 E450XL ambulance that has run only 35K. I am aware of many people advising me about idle hours and potential cylinder washdown issues. I did do some due diligence to probe into the background. The ambulance was owned by a wealthy little town way up in northern NH where some rich and famous people own vacation homes and hence the ambulance rarely saw much action. I drove it home 500+ miles to northern VA, and the truck did not miss a beat.
Anyways, I wanted to introduce us to this forum as I start my journey of owning my first E series truck. I am fairly decent with DIY work, which I am expecting to happen a lot, what with shops charging premium prices for working on these trucks and the tucked away engines. There is a little rust that I'd have normally frowned upon. But overlooked it in return for a smooth running engine and overall great running vehicle. The plan is to convert the ambulance into a tiny home on wheels. I look forward to participating and learning more!!
