Today I drained the degas bottle to start the process of replacing a fuel injector. While draining the bottle I noticed there was contamination in it. What it is I am usure of. It really dont have the smell of diesil. Its not brownish its still golden. Bit of History, 1500 miles ago there was head gaskets and HPOP and cooler replaced. This was done due to blown head gaskets. Could the contamination be left over residue inside the cooling system from that as I did have oil in it then. They could of done a crappy job of flushing it, IF they even did it at all. There isnt really any speration in the contamination like its fuel.
Guess my question is this. What would you do in this situation? I have thought about flushing the system 2-3 times over the next week put some miles on it see if I can get it to clean up. Or should I be more careful and take it in see if there are bigger issues at play. I did go ahead and tear it down and put the injector in.
If your coolant system was contaminated with oil, it can leave lots of residue that can be very difficult to flush out with straight water. Some use VC-9; others have used simple green or other non-foaming detergents.
