I have a AC Delco # 6k1031 that I just installed, with in a few miles there were 6 groves on the flat side of the belt. Is that a defect? (Yes i did install correctly). What would cause to start groves like this? I put a new top pulley and a Dayco belt, seems to all good now.
Sounds like you might have installed the belt correctly but replaced a smooth pulley with a grooved one. Or you did not install the belt correctly.
Have you eyeballed the belt's path over each pulley? Grooves go on grooves and flat goes on flat.
Might also be that you installed the belt the way that it came off but it was wrong from the start. There's a diagram on the radiator support. Can't miss it.
Do you have working AC? I have a vague memory of reading about an AC compressor delete modification involving a pulley swap and a shorter belt. After the AC compressor locks up, which apparently is not uncommon. Maybe a PO did yours but got the wrong pulley.
