2017 F350 Platinum . I know there are threads on running boards. In winter ( up here in Canada) the boards retract slow if at all. Common. I also know a lot of issues are with low voltage but put 2 new optimas AGM in 18 months ago. With the nice weather here of late at plus 10-14, the boards will not retract? I check for debris but nothing. If I open door and close I can force in with my legs.
Thinking maybe the motors are getting weak? Anyone have this the case or ideas?
thanks
Disconnect the motor from the boards (remove motor completely). Raise and lower the boards by hand, if they pivot and operate smoothly with out the motor, then the pins and joints are free and good. Next would be to apply power to the motors and bench test them. If they are sluggish then time for new motors and if your capable tear them apart the clean up the carbon brushes and armature and relube. The motor is basically the same as a window lift motor.

Thanks for that response. I also see that there is the regular connections almost plug and play and will start there and disconnect clean and add dieletic grease to see if that helps.
Did you try going into the settings on your dash and reselect the running boards?
Yes I have. I always do that when washing the truck. I even try setting them to out when they are functioning properly but when you start driving they retract back in.
Yeah I think you're going to find that the motors are getting seized up inside. You can disassemble them and lube them up as mentioned and probably put some new life in them you don't want to buy new ones. Those motors are in a direct path of a lot of water, salt, debris, and everything, so they could use some love.
