Key FOB programming

2015 F-250 CC 4X4 Powerstroke

Hey all. I had a senior moment and washed my clothes with my key fob in the pocket. I found it before going into the dryer, took the battery out and left it open to dry out completely. After installing a fresh battery, the key will start the truck, the unlock button works, but the lock button also sets off the panic alarm. The panic alarm will also go off at random times. I can get another fob from Amazon and have it cut. I saw online 2 very different procedures for programming the key. One guy claims you need 2 working keys to program, and another says only 1 good working key is needed, with a way different procedure. Has anyone programmed their own keys without paying a locksmith hundreds of dollars? Of course I would want the key to have "admin" status and not a "my key".

Well, on the bright side, the key fob is not just clean, it's Tide clean.

sorry my guy, but that's just how extortion works.

I'm down to one key for my 2015 f250, and only the panic button works. I've gotten used to punching the door code to get in, bc unlocking the door manually with the phisical key, sets the alarm off. genius. thanks Ford
but yeah, you really wont be able to get a key for less than $150. you can get an after market key from "Tom's keys". and you can get a key and a programmer for around $150, and then more keys for around $90. don't quot me on the prices but I know It beats the dealership, bc their quote was $350 per key.
and it's not just a senior moment, every time I do laundry I find a knife in the rubber seal or the dryer. lol

Here’s what I would try, you can carefully pry the top of the key open from the key shank enough to get the circuit board out. Then I would take isopropyl alcohol and drench the whole board in it and swirl it around and then remove it and use an old tooth brush to scrub it down as the iso evaporates, this will remove most if not all corrosion or conductive build up from the board, try and blow air under the main chip as that’s where water gets trapped and causes corrosion.

I have fixed several of these keys doing that process and a few stubborn ones required the main chip to be unsoldered and cleaned up underneath to work again. Last key I fixed was in a lake for a while and I got it working again.

I’d recommend getting an OEM key as the aftermarket keys don’t work very well. You can also get Forscan and the adapter they recommend and a one year license and program your own keys for $50-80 and have an excellent OBD2 reader for your truck.

It can be done through FORscan? I have the lifetime license. Do you know where I can get the procedure?

Read this forum post. I don't remember if newer vehicles are supported.
