300-6 drip rail oiling system

My 'ol 82 F-100 has a bad tick in the valvetrain in the back of the engine. I thought it had a broken valve spring, or a siezed lifter, bent pushrod, but it runs great so it was on my 'list' to fix it later. well, I stoped at my Gramps in law, and he used to race these 300-6 engines, and what they would do is drill a hole in the valve covers directly over the contact point for the pushrod/rocker arm, and then tam into the oilgalley where your gauge comes off, and run a plennum, and some 1/8 inch tubing, and just supplement oil the top of the engine. I didn't really bielieve him, so he took my PCV valve out while running, and squirted some light oil in the hole, and it quieted up in a heatbeat! how many other people out there have this, or have had this done?
