Just heard about a new BLM app that might be of interest to those of you who boondock. @scraprat I was thinking of you when I saw this, so just in case you haven't heard about it yet here's a link:
Thanks for the heads-up! I'll give it try just to see and can always delete it. If you haven't tried Avenza that's not a bad app to download NF motor vehicle maps to and other things.
But in reality I'm a creature of habit and like a good old Gazetteer map that's packed with so much info. Plus, the batteries never die but don't do so well in the rain. 😉
Checking it out now. Note that when following the directions, line #5, you have to type in the entire string "BLM MMPK" If you type only a part of the string (like BLM MM) it comes up with nothing.
UPDATE: Pretty good app. Detail is good. The downloads are by state so they can be fairly large. about 200 MB. The BLM app has layers that can be added/removed. I had to remove the PLSS (Public Land Survey System) layers to see the map better - it had imposed a red grid over the map which made it hard to read when zoomed out.
I ran the app side-by-side with my OnX Hunt app. Pretty much the same data. Different ways of presenting the data. There are more roads/trails shown by OnX. For a free app, it's pretty good.

I do use Avenza, and All Trails for hiking. Rand McNally “easy to read” are my favorite paper maps, but I have Gazetteers too. And a Garmin and the phone. Yeesh, it’s a wonder I ever actually see anything.
