47 years here. We exchange short, hand written notes. Will go out if convenient. And it will be late afternoon to avoid the “crush”. Congrats to all of us for balancing significant others and our truck addiction.
We were at my father-in-laws last night with a few other couples. They were all the type that overdid and overspent on stupid BS crap. They were all shocked when my wife started in on the ridiculousness of the Hallmark Holiday.
(she's a keeper)
My wife haven't exchanged gift for any reason for the last nine years since we bought our house. Whenever someone asks what we got each other for Christmas or birthdays I point at the house. My wife wanted the house and I'll admit it's a very nice house but it needs some big ticket items so we consider those our gifts to each other. We replaced all of the windows a few years back, this year it's going to roof and siding.
Very wide choices, Bob. What siding is on it now? What's wrong with it? What are you putting on?
You should blow insulation into the walls before the new siding is on.
The house was originally build in the late 1800s, The previous to us owner had the house completely gutted in the early 1980s, inside and out. The house is basically a 40 year house with 40 year old siding and roofing, and the previously mentioned windows. The siding was the first generation vinyl siding and it wasn't installed properly installed because the installers probably not too experienced installing it. We're looking at LP siding. It's supposed to last over 30 years, long after we are planning to live here. The new siding will have the Tyvek under it, which isn't one the house now. We also blew 12-14 inches of insulation in the attic a couple of years ago.

I see. The Tyvek will help.
15-17 years ago we had the old clapboard siding torn off, blew insulation in where we could . Most of the first floor is brick. I didn't want them to remove bricks to blow insulation. You would have been able to tell which bricks were removed.
We put Hardy Board on, a fiber cement siding, with a grain pattern. We like the looks of it.
Good choice on the Hardie-Plank, Abe. I would highly recommend it to you, too, Bob. Cost isn't that different but the quality between it and anything LP makes is massive. Stands up to moisture and insects since it's not wood. Can't get eaten or rot. Check it out. Just make sure your installers are familiar with fiber-cement board siding. It's not hard, (I did it) but it does take a special saw blade to cut it and the knowledge and talent to set up the nail gun for the nails to seat correctly without standing proud or breaking the board.
