Compatibility
Hi I'm new and not a mechanic by any means but have a question.
I have an 04 F-150 lariat crew cab 4x2 with a good engine . I also have an 04 F-150 fx4 4x4 with a blown up engine. The question is Are the engines interchangeable. I'm talking about plug n play interchangeable. I realize if you have the tools time and money you could fit that engine on a lawnmower chassis.
Any help is appreciated

Are they both NBS or Heritage?
There are differences starting in 2004.
You also have to look & see if they are both Triton 3v or both 2v engines.
Are they both the same displacement? 5.4L vs 4.6L
The answers will not necessarily be deal breakers, it will likely determine if you need to bring sensors & computers & not reuse whats in there.

I don’t see many 5.4L 2v engines but according to vin would be the fastest:
8th digit: L, its a 2-valve engine; N, its a 3-valve engine.
Also on top of the air intake should say either 5.4L 3v Triton or 5.4L Triton.
The first one is a 3v engine & the other is likely a 2v.
