i laugh when i overhear the toms river and south idiots. the complain that they spend 10 hours a day in transit for an 8 hour a day job, and then say "but it's worth it to live down da shaw"
Well This ain't going away for awhile. I think a long while. Engineers found out the problem is a much larger problem. I passed the site last Sunday. There was equipment on site about the same amount as before. When I passed on Friday it went at least 5 fold. There are at least 4 office trailers plus the emergency command response truck. More equipment was on site. Looks like they have at least 2 or 3 drilling rigs onsite doing the test boring. According to DOT updates the west bound side is not affected by the sinkholes. However, I think time will tell. I am thinking they want to get the east bound side figured out first before approaching the west bound side. Unfortunately, they cannot not temporarily route traffic onto the west bound lanes. I don't know if 80 west could support it as in with the all the exits and entrance ramps right there. Even if you had 2 lanes in each direction that could relieve some traffic flow off the local roads. However the first accident in there, it is all over...
it's up to 90 voids found with several bad ones. what seems crazy is thats a fill area where they raised it to go over rt 15 ,didn't they know about the mines there in the late 60's? traffic flow wise in todays ledger they are talking about making a crossover, 2 lanes east in the am reverse at night
Yea.... 2 months but they are going to put in cross over lanes. Humm.. That is going to take a couple of weeks to get done. With that said, it's going to be more than 2 months. Last I heard there is are over 150 voids under 80. This is effectively swiss cheese on the eastbound side. Maybe it's time for a better solution. Unfortunately, I do not think they have the 50 feet needed to add additional lanes and infrastructure needed for the expansion. There is too much built up to reroute the road around the problem. With 80 closed it is affecting commerce within the local and regional area.
more like a regional nightmare, living closer to 15 than 23 now, to get into dover or rockaway ,it's faster/easier for me to backtrack to 23 to greenpond rd to reach 46 down there, than sit in traffic down around pickatinny
edit
how many holes are under the west side they are not talking about? it's really mine city around there, not that the franklin area isn't any better, there a few big holes there also some in backyards
