2011 F250 6.7L. Have noticed a small leak on driveway. Took it in to local diesel mechanic and they glanced from the bottom and said it's an upper oil pan leak. They said it would be 40 hrs of labor and quoted me $7500.
I'm wondering how you know if it is actually an upper pan leak? Where would it be coming from in that case. Also, I know it would be an involved job, but does 40 hrs of labor and $7500 sound excessive? TIA
They either don't want to do the job or they're pulling the whole engine to reseal it including lifting the cab. The job is doable with the transmission and flywheel removed. It's not easy to pull the bolts but it's doable.
I have a 2002 F250 7.3. The oil pan started to rot out and was weeping oil. Very poor design. The new $180 oil pan could not be installed without pulling my 7.3 l engine. $3000 Canadian.
I had some oil leaks in the bedplate seal on my BMW 6 cylinder - huge job to repair. I ended up cutting some pieces of aluminum in long rectangles, cleaned up the outside of the block where the leaks were with brake fluid, roughened the area with a small burr grinder, then used fresh silicone gasket sealant with an aluminum cap to seal the leaks. It worked and has held for years. If you can see where the leak is and if its not too bad, this might be possible also.... Oil leak repair - aluminum rectangle, silicone gasket sealant
