Android volume settings with sync

I'm having an issue with setting the volume on my android phone when it's connected to sync. This started after I did a sync update (don't recall what the versions were). When I go to the volume setting and try to change it, the volume setting goes back to a specific level.

I also used to get directions when using google maps over my truck speakers, which also stopped working.

Has anyone else run into these issues?
