Hello. This is the second forum I will be posting this on to see which one actually has people on it and will determine which one I will use.
Im getting ready to buy my first travel trailer and am new to towing period. Can someone verify my calculations are correct.
My truck is a 2016 F-150 40k miles with a 5.0 v-8
curb weight=5340
gcwr=14400
max loaded trailer weight=9000
gvwr=7000
When I install a w/d hitch it allows for 1110 max tongue weight. 500 without
The trailer I want to get is a 2025 Jayco Jayflight slx 260 bhw.
30 feet long. 4600 pounds dry. And 6500 pounds gvwr/wet double axle.
The setup seems to be an easy go when I add and subtract everything. If this can be verified Id totally appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Yeah man , good to go, no issues pulling an 6500 lbs trailer with a 2016 F150 assuming you have a trailer brake controller already installed (other than maybe fuel milage, which will likely be around 10 MPG). You will of course need the appropriate weight distribution hitch and sway control device, your dealer should be able to help you out there, or give etrailer's tech line a call (link to etrailer below).
30' is a lot of trailer behind a 150 truck even if the numbers work out.
I would want a 250 min and maybe even a 350.
With the larger truck you are not at the high side of what it could haul.

So you have 1660lbs of payload. Any & everything you put in/on the truck takes away from that.
WD Hitch: 100
Tongue Weight: 800
People: 960 max if you have added nothing and put nothing else in the truck.
Seems very doable and I've read several threads where people pull this length of trailer with an F150 and have no issues.
That is a long trailer for a single axle......
I would worry about sway in a cross wind, two axles help, with spread axles even more.
Have you actually researched anyone who pulls that trailer and get firsthand reports?
My bad, I see it has two axles, and they are placed rear of midsection which would help with that sway issue.
Here is my experience with my 264bh which is comparable with your 260bh. Mine has a 6k gvw, a little less than yours. 900# tongue weight loaded for travel with about 10 gallons fresh water.
Trucks
e99 ccsb 5.4 scaled at 6700#.
01 f250 xclb 7.3 never scaled with fibetglass topper and sliding cargo tray . Should weigh more than the gasser. 8800gvw.
17 f250 ccsb 6.7 fibetglass topper 10k gvw.
5.4 was a dog and struggled with a 3500# pop up.
01 easily went up and down every pass in colorado we drove with the 264. Loaded for travel we were near or over 8800. Cross winds made me glad I had the heavy diesel over the steer axle. 30' can receive alot of crosswind. Truck felt maxed out weight and handling wise.
17 is a much easier drive with the 264. Night and day difference towing.
