Cooling fans

So I have a 1967 f250 2wd that I put a 400 in and I bought an aluminum radiator for it. So I don't have any issues with over heating if I'm moving, but if I do get stuck at a red light I can watch the temp go up. I don't currently have a shroud on it and I know that's the issue. My question is should I convert to electric fans or find a shroud? If I go with just a shroud any idea where I can get one that will fit correct or will I be better off trying to have one made?

I am not a fan, yes I went there of electric fan(s) on something that was not made to use them.
You would also have to swap in a 3G alternator as electric fans pull a lot of amps.
How far away is the fan from the face of the radiator more than a inch?
I am guessing the fan is installed right or it would over heat when moving as the air coming in would be pushed out by the fan.

I like how this guy makes the shroud. Pretty easy and no special tools needed.
A Google search
has a bunch of others that look like a lot are for electric fans

I can tell you a shroud will make a vary big difference. I have a car that cam from the factory without a shroud and the fan was 1 inch from the radiator.
The motor had mudd in it and why it over heated, new radiator was not a real help. I added a shroud and was shocked just how good it worked.
So yes add a shroud.
BTW a good test to see if a fan is pulling air thru the radiator is take a sheet of paper and hold it at the grille when motor at idle and let go of the paper.
If the fan is pulling air thru the paper should get sucked to the grill and stay there.

Shroud all day long. No moving parts, less money moving out of your pocket, more air moving through the radiator.

It is easy to just get a shroud for a 77-79 351M/400 depending on if you have a standard size radiator or a Super Cooling radiator. It could also depend on what type of perches you used for the 400 install: the 77-79 351M/400 perches (which are the same as 69-79 302 perches), or something else which could affect the alignment of the fan to the radiator. People replace the bump core support with dent core supports all the time so everything should line up.

I only have small block experience, but I went from a stock set up with my 302, to a 4 row radiator with dual electric fans only, I was nervous. Worked out great though! I love not hearing the roar of the mechanical fan. That's a plus for me. Truck stays a constant 190° no matter the conditions.

so not a great picture of the distance between the two but should give a rough idea. Yeah I like the thought of electric fans. Not hearing the mechanical fan and maybe a little hp gain, but I also like the simplicity of the mechanical fan.

is there any way to get the measurements for one? So I would know it would work? I don't remember the truck I got them from having that much room between the fan and radiator.

Electric fans pull high amps! I have a 100 amp alternator with dual fans and AC. 100 amps are not enough, especially when the lights are on at night. If you can find a shroud, it will definitely improve your cooling .

Yeah i think I'm best off finding or making one rather than going to electric.

Not much moves air like a mechanical fan does. There is a reason big trucks still use them. Get a shroud and mechanical fan and you shoudl be good.

You absolutely need a shroud with that setup. Looks like the fan is a good 6" from the radiator even with the spacer on it. With that kind of room, you could install a fan with a clutch on it so it stays quiet as long as temps are down. I'm jealous of all that room - I had to install a dual electric fan setup on my 400 (swapped into the 1960 F250) because I didn't have the clearance to run the mechanical fan. If you do go the electric fan route, you get what you pay for. The cheap fans don't pull the advertised CFM's. Ask me how I know...

Lol did your truck get a little hot? Yeah I'm thinking about an aluminum 2 piece shroud.
