My '92 F150 with I6 and 150k miles is stalling quite frequently. Usually it is while entering a turn, but sometimes on the straight. Usually under 25 mph. When I come to a stop at a stop sign or red light, the engine often races a bit and then settles down. The check engine light comes on occassionally. I connected a code reader to the engine but I am not getting any numbers. I have had the truck for a year but have not had the time to do a tuneup or check under the hood (my bad). How should I proceed? What is your best guess?
Thanks! Seems that the connection for the code reader was not grounding well...once fixed, all 3 codes were related to the egr valve!
What did the code say as I believe there are many for the EGR.
You can try and pull it and clean it if not opening and the port but if the vacuum side leaks you must replace.

I took it to a friend of mine who is a retired mechanic. He fixed the EGR problem, cleaned up some wiring - maybe replaced it. He also took the idle device apart, cleaned it and put it back together again....replaced the pvc valve, the gasket on the intake manifold and the valve cover gasket. Truck is much more responsive now, no more check engine light....but it still stalls occassionally, always decelerating. Any suggestions? I am going to do a tune up in a couple of weeks.
Check your engine wiring harness between the engine and the driver side fender.
Let the truck idle while you shake the harness and connectors, looking for a shorted wire, a broken wire, or a bad connection in the connectors.
If you have a problem, the truck will stumble or stall when you disturb it.
