Keep in mind that these manuals are created by people who have no idea what it is for. They are given things from the engineers and told to put it in a book form.
When going through my OM, I found the heated mirrors can be enabled without using the rear defrost. It shows a symbol, but the symbol is so small that I have no clue what it is. I have yet to figure out if the mirrors can indeed be heated up al on their own.
I doubt you can still get real OEM shop manuals, huh? I used to buy them for my cars and trucks. My '92 F-250 was two big books the size of a larger city phone book, and a smaller one for electrical. They were pretty handy! Are electronic copies available?
I dislike the electronic manual. If Foerd is going to only offer online manuals, they should ge tailor specifically to the vehicles VIN. Enter your VIN and learn everything about your specific vehicle as equipped. We should not have to read about every option available and then have to figure out what applies to the Paticular truck.
I wouldn't think it would be that hard for them to program a system that would pull together an electronic document based of the VIN.
First page in the OM, the symbols glossary. Guess what is NOT in there!
The heated mirror symbol.
Heck, they used to have a symbol on the mirror itself showing it was a heated mirror - at least the 2002 Navigator I owned had one. Half the people out there probably hitting rear defrost on vehicles without heated mirrors wondering if they even work.
An advantage of electronic documentation is the potential for them to be living documents - updated with new or corrected information. Having FTE house static copies means at some point they will be outdated and potentially incorrect. Better to host links to the source of truth.
Yes and no heated mirror button as shown in the other section of the manual.
Well sumbiootchy, I found WHERE the heated mirror switch is located.
Hint, Not in our Superduties.
Was on an RV forum and an owner of a Ford powered notorhome asked what this switch was that was above the mirrors on his E350 chassis cab door. It was the heated mirror switch.
Apparently trucks/vans that don't have a heated rear window, like chassis cabs dont have the button for the rear defrost either, makes sense, so they move the heated mirrors to a switch on the door. Its just weird it is mentioned in our OM even though it is meant for Chassis cabs like the E series.
Like a few others stated, I purchased the hard copy version. I like to have a physical manual in the glove box. I would like to have the service manual but it says does not work with Apple pc / Mac
