I'm going to replace the battery in my 2015 and the reset procedure calls for flashing highs and pressing the brake with the power on but not started resulting in the battery icon flashing. My problem is that on my truck with the power on not started I don't get a battery icon. I've searched on the internet and found others who have 2015 F150s with the same issue. Apparently it's normal for my year/model and a firmware update in 2017 added the icon.
My question is will the reset procedure still work even though there is no icon? Is there a way to verify it was reset? I don't have Forscan because all my computers and phones are Apple.
My guess it will not reset it. I would make sure I installed a fully charged battery, let it rest overnight so that it sees the state of charge. I actually have read documentation from a Ford battery engineer that states the BLM will reset itself within a few weeks. I would not lose sleep over it personally.
the "state of charge" resets automatically. But people say there's a "battery age" thing that doesn't reset without the procedure. I don't know how much that matters. I'd think SOC is by far more important.
When I replaced my battery the first time, I didn't reset the BLM. It lasted 6 years, which is a record for me. The battery I have now, I reset it. In my experience, it doesn't matter one way or the other.
Should anyone care for the note about resetting , see attached link, go to post #27. I have the dongle and will reset mine when I change the battery soon, but I'm also upgrading from a H6 to H7 and want to update the file. https://www.f150forum.com/f118/new-b...460039/index3/
Thanks for that info SpencerPJ. I haven't replaced the battery yet, but when I do I'll try the reset procedure and if it works great, if not that's apparently ok too.
Update: I changed the battery this afternoon and, even though the battery icon isn't displayed with the power on and no start, it did flash 3 times after I performed the reset procedure.
BTW the battery I replaced was the original battery from when I picked up the truck on 7/1/2015. It still load tested about 90%, but it was starting to struggle on cold mornings.
A 9 plus year old battery, and an AGM at that? Must be a record. I guess all those nuclear submarines around there fill the air with electricity or something.
