Hi all
I have a 2024 6.7 HO KR purchased new April 2024, has just at 12k on the clock; over the past several thousand miles when I hit a minor pothole or even go over a speed bump (so at low speeds) my driver door sounds like it is loose. Its very odd, I am not talking about a trim rattle, this is the actual door, or maybe the window. I do also have a rattle at higher speeds (75mph+) where the window rattles/hums--this is mitigated by rolling down the window then back up; which solves the issue for about 5 mins, then its back to the same rattle/hum
I tried searching for this issue on the forum but couldnt find any threads...is this a known issue? anyone have any ideas how I can remedy this??
I havent reached out to a dealer yet as I will be very shocked if they do anything for this
Edit: I went around with window up vs down—now realize it’s the window and not door…
so back to original question—know issue with these windows?
I have had this problem on just about every Ford Super Duty I've owned. Particularly, I had to correct it on my 24 Platinum Tremor. Fortunately for us, the new striker is better than the ones that were on the 21's and prior. To correct this, simply loosen the two torx on the striker and have someone help you and push the striker towards the interior (direction) of the truck then tighten it down. The problem here is that if you have wonderful autobahn quality roads, like we do in Tucson, the ****ty roads will bounce it back over time. So, the second time I did this, I simply went and got Gorilla Glue (GEL) and put it behind the striker and then tightened it down. It has remained tight, and it has been 8 months.
Now the next step for me, is to pull the inner weatherstripping and thread surgical tubing through it to keep the foam from compressing as far and causing a rubbing noise from the natural flex of the door and wind noise. The sad fact is that these "laser aligned" doors are hit or miss as far as what the "laser" aligns them to. on my 21, I swear to God the ****ing automation must have "laser" aligned my door to the truck in front of it on the assembly line. /sarcasmoff
All of my cars do this, four trucks and a Mercedes, if it's cold outside. For the 24, at around 65 my window hums like crazy. It's the gasket being cold because if I press on the window it stops at the top by the pillar. After about 10 minutes it stops doing it. I'll be hitting the gaskets all around with some appropriate lube next time I wash it. I think it sat around for 3 or so months on the lot before buying it.
Try and relate temp with the rattle to see if it's worse when cold. Could just need some gasket rejuvenation.
I've always used a silicon based lube that I bought way back on a 96 Taurus sunroof.
Thank you; I will get this done. what a PIA
Good tip on the tubing under the weather stripping
This certainly is a PIA. My OCD makes this drive me nuts. I too have a Mercedes (E450) and as another poster noted, does it as well when it is cold. I have, so far, put surgical tubing in all my vehicles to try and minimize the rubbing, rattling and wind noise. I have had pretty good luck so far. The other thing I did with my Super Duty vehicles was tighten the mirrors. There are three bolts on each door that hold them, and every Super Duty I have had has had them not as tight as they should be. The mirrors pull quite a bit on the door away from the cab simply by leverage counterweight; tightening them up made a difference as well.
If, in the end, the rattling does not get better, the only option left is to take it to the dealer and have them align the door. They do this by loosening the hinge mounts, pushing them a few millimeters inwards and tighten again. I looked at mine and there is no way in hell I'd attempt it as I'd mess it up.
My drivers door bounces a bit. I drive on a fairly rough section of highway and have had the door make all kinds of noises from rattles to clunks to buzzing. When combined with strong crosswinds against the passenger side, it really gets to howling. Door is tight though, so no clue how to tighten it.
I had something like this on.a 2000 F250. At highway speeds, my passsenger doort would rattle like something was loose. Initially though it was the side view mirror but no matter how much tightening or re-routing / cushioning of wiring harnesses solved the issue. Turned out to be the outside vent covers…. These are covers on the outside of the door that allow you to crack the window without having rain / snow to come in. The adhesive holding the cover on came loose at the corner and rattled against the window frame.
my lesson learned: things on one part of the door / window can sound like it is coming from somewhere else.

And if they do, make sure it stays aligned with the other panels. My 2000 F-150 had some damage done to the driver door and to this day it still isn't right after they pulled the door and do whatever they did to fix it - or replace it.
And glad you have an E class and not the soft top version on years past - 2010 convertible made me never want another one again. Still have a 2012 SLK that pours water on you both sides after a car wash or rain reminding you the gasket needs some love. Between that and the drain holes in the pillars getting clogged up from an oak tree's pollen every year...
